Tewa HorseBorn to a family of artists and craftsmen from the Tesuque Pueblo in New Mexico, Tom (a tribal policeman) wanted to incorporate some of the traditional images that have been handed down from generation to generation, into a design that was contemporary in feeling and rich with symbolism. To do this, he combined various animal abstractions with geometric patterns. The sash represents good fortune. The blanket honors the horse as a bold and strong being. The eagle is a symbol of prosperity. The handprint stands for the loving touch of all creation. Artist: Tom Tapia, Made of Resin. Measures 6" RETIRED |

Boot CampA cowboy's best friends are his horse and saddle, a rope, a hat and a comfortable pair of boots. But, boy howdy, when it comes to Painted Ponies you can forget the plain, clunky, brown and black working cowboy boot. Banishing the traditional "high heels of the range" from her imagination, Idaho wildlife artist Maria Ryan created a colorful tribute to the cowboy boot mystique when she bedecked and bedazzled her Pony with an outrageous collection of western fashion footwear and let him kick up his heels. Resin, Measures 6", Artist: Maria Ryan RETIRED No.'s 2E-6797 & 2E-6815 in stock |

Fancy DancerThe Fancy Dance evolved from the early Plains tribe’s war and victory dances. It is an energetic style of dance, usually performed by younger men who spin, twist, and make quick steps and fast turns. Their outfits are traditionally composed of lots of bright colors, metallic beads, sequins and ribbons which create a flashy display. They have two bustles, a head roach and intricately beaded headband… all of which are faithfully and stunningly recreated on a spirited, snorting horse that is caught up in the excitement of the drum beat. This unique creation by a Virginia artist won The People’s Choice Award in the, "The Native Art of Horse Painting." Resin. Measures 9.5" Artist: Devon Archer RETIRED No.'s 1E-2129, 1E-2270, 1E-3218 & 1E-4359 in stock |

Peppermint TwistAccording to legend, candy canes were created to symbolize Jesus, their shape representing the letter J. But to most people the hard, cane-shaped candy, traditionally with red and white stripes and flavored with peppermint, is as much an ornament as a confection – a sweet treat to munch as well as to decorate a tree. The artist who created this tasty Holiday Pony hails from Alabama keeps out a bowl of candy canes and swirls at Christmastime… and often long past. Rolling Thunder"Rolling Thunder" hearkens back to a time of big skies and fierce storms, of thundering herds of bison large enough to shake the earth beyond the horizon, and of Plains Indians and their spirited, sure-footed, courageous horses trained to carry bow-bearing braves through the stampeding confusion of a bison hunt. Only an artist who has called Oklahoma home her entire life, who has seen with her own eyes the way darkening skies can be splintered with lightning bolts that seem to outline a rumbling "sky herd" of buffalo, could have created this masterful homage to the "buffalo ponies."
